大陆干旱化与亚洲季风的加强通常与青藏高原的隆升以及印度-亚洲板块碰撞造成的海陆重新分配有关[1-3]。但也有些研究认为过去亚洲环境变化主要由全球气候所支配[4-6]。印度与亚洲板块碰撞以来最显著的气候事件是始新世-渐新世的转变,34百万年前突然的变冷,伴随着南极冰川的开始[7-9]。但是,这种全球事件对亚洲环境的影响还未被充分理解。本文我们采用磁性地层学和循环地层学来说明干旱化——由青藏高原东北部干盐湖沉积的消失所指示的——精确发生在始新世-渐新世交界的时候。我们的发现认为该全球转变与古生物和古环境变化记录的亚洲大陆显著干旱化和降温相关联[10-12],因此支持全球变冷与始新世-渐新世转变相关联的观点[13-15]。我们指出,在对沉积物记录有充分的年代控制前提下,全球气候有别于构造运动且可认定为亚洲大陆环境的主要贡献者。译自:Nature
